On July 1, 2026, our parish community officially welcomed Mr. Don Fontana as our Director of Adult Formation & OCIA.
Don begins his first year at Mary Queen of Saints after spending the past five years as the Director of Adult Formation and Safe Environment Coordinator at St. Paul of the Cross Parish in the South Hills. He served as a long-term substitute Religion Teacher at Oakland Catholic High School during the Spring '25 and '26 semesters teaching 11th grade Ecclesiology and Morality and worked previously as the part-time Director of Faith Formation and Safe Environment Coordinator at St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady of the Angels Parishes in the Lawrenceville/Garfield/Bloomfield neighborhoods of the city of Pittsburgh.
Prior to working in the city, Don served as a long-term substitute Religion Teacher teaching 11th grade Morality at Seton LaSalle High school for the Spring '21 semester and also taught 9th & 10th grade Scripture, Christology, Ecclesiology, and Church History at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School during 2019-20 school year. Don also spent 17 years as the Director of Religious Education and Safe Environment Coordinator at Our Lady of Grace Parish in the South Hills.
A graduate of Duquesne University with a B.A. in Print Journalism, Don earned an M.S. in Secondary Education from Niagara University and has one class remaining to complete an M.A. in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. A former baseball player for the Dukes, Don spent six years as an assistant baseball coach at The Catholic University of America, the University of Maryland, Georgetown University, and Niagara University. He has worked in professional baseball on a seasonal basis for the past 25 years as a part-time scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, and currently with the Los Angeles Angels.
He resides in Ross Township with his wife, Erin, their six children and is a member of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church on Pittsburgh's North Side.
