Celebrating the Saints this Week- On Tuesday, July 29, the Church celebrates Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. This memorial was added to the official liturgical calendar of the Church by Pope Francis in 2021.
- On Wednesday, July 30, we celebrate St. Peter Chrysologus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. As Bishop of Ravenna, he is remembered for his exceptional preaching, hence his last name, Chrysologus, which means “of golden speech” in Greek.
- On Thursday, July 31, we celebrate St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus in 1540. He is patron saint of retreatants and soldiers.
- On Friday, August 1, we celebrate St. Alphonsus Liguori, Doctor of the Church, who founded the Redemptorists in 1732. He is remembered for his mastery of moral theology and is patron saint of confessors and moral theologians.
- On Saturday, August 2, we celebrate St. Eusebius of Vercelli, Bishop, and St. Peter Julian Eymard, Priest. Saint Eusebius founded the Canons Regular in the West, uniting clerical and monastic life and Saint Peter Julian Eymard founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in 1856.
Blessings on your week!
